This is just a little something I worked on to get myself back into the mood of painting after a long vacation. Let's see... I woke up at around four in the morning with an image just stuck in my head. I couldn't sleep, and had no choice but to try and paint it. To my delight, I was able to re-create what I intended quite accurately! The background was painted in about three hours, and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I intended for this to be a Zim piece from the beginning, which is why the whole thing looks more grim than my usual work. Post-apocalyptic and sci-fi scenes are quickly becoming some of my favorites to work with. Also... DAT SPACESUIT. Zim was added later, and it took a while for me to color him. Mostly because I was having too much fun during a private livestream session with my bestest friend. <3 YOUKNOWWHOYOUARE.
But yeah, I really liked making this one. I wanna do more like it in the near future! From a technical standpoint, I can see a lot of improvement from my previous work. There is a lot of empty space in the composition of this one, but I got positive feedback prior to posting for that very reason. It's not obvious in-your-face fanart, but rather a scene with the character conforming to it as a secondary element.
All that being said, I hope you like it!
Now to work on some other important pending art... I have a special someone in mind.
Ohh the joys of speed painting! Like a concept artist, I aim to get my ideas across efficiently, yet effectively. I used to go overboard with detail, but recently I've decided that speed is important as well. If you work on your painting at thumbnail size, this really helps you lay down a foundation with little brush strokes and less distractions. Of course, you can then refine the background further to your liking afterwards.
invader zim.... man i havent seen that show in forever (nostalgia-gasm) great show and a good picture to remind me of it. ERMEHGERD DRAW GIR AND PIGGY!!! anyway though. great BG. that would be a really cool ipod BG also loven the lighting effect coming off the ground and bouncing off his face mixed with the light from his jetpack. overall a fairly simple picture, nothing really seems too complex beyond shading and lighting but It is very good ^_^ keep up the fantastic work, Its always a joy to see
Zim is made of so much awesome. ;A; I just recently got into the series thanks to a friend of mine, and knew I was gonna be hooked. You just get this inner fangirl screaming at you saying, "OH YES, YOU ARE GOING TO OBSESS OVER THIS. DRAW FOR ZIM!!" Well, that's what it's like for me anyway. xD
OMGIR! Actually, I was thinking about drawing the cute little piggy thing. AND THE MOOSE! <33
I'm glad you liked it, Mac! ^___^ Thank you so much.
Oh yey! A comment from you! ^^ I'm so glad you liked my use of complementary colors in this one. It was a lot of fun painting those pretty purple colors against the greens of the background. I too love sketchy styles, so I'm going to be working more with them in the future!
After contemplating on which Zim piece to comment on, I decided to pick this one, because it's my favourite.
You have some real talent going on here, and I think your style of drawing Zim is beautiful, I would love to see how you draw Dib, he's my favourite character from the show :] Your sense of lighting is very good, from what I can see you understand it very well, I also love the way you coloured it! I must say as well, the detail you put into your backgrounds is phenomenal, I think that's what puts you aside from the rest of the Zim artists I have seen. You said you were new to drawing Zim fanart? I can't really recommend anything to help you learn how to draw him apart from studying official pictures/screenshots. I like to especially pay attention to the expressions of the characters. I will also say that in season 2 the characters look somewhat different than in season 1, Gaz's head is more angular as well as Dib's, in my opinion I prefer the style in Season 2, it just feels a lot more cleaner to me.
I think you deserve a watch, can't wait to see more!
Oh hello there! :"D It made me smile to see a comment from you. I'm glad this latest Zim piece is your favorite. I spent a while on it!
Aww, you really think I did a good job on drawing Zim? Thank you so much! It means a lot to me, getting comments like these from someone that is so well-versed in the style. I'm entirely new to the fandom, so I'm trying to reach out to you guys to gain a better understanding of it all. I really need to try drawing Dib next, it would be a lot of fun! I heard from a friend that he is more difficult, but I don't mind a challenge. ^^
I'm also happy that you enjoy my background work! I certainly put a lot of love and attention into them, so that means a lot. I used to be terrible with backgrounds, so I had to really drill down and focus on 'em.
Very sound advice on studying screenshots! I have been doing that a lot to really get a feel for the character. The last step for me would be to gain my own style after I know how to draw him accurately to the original. ^^ Ohh, and thank you for pointing out the little differences between the seasons! That is very good to know.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this up for me, and I am honored you'd watch me!
however if i where you i'd try to improve my "more realistic" art skills, if you know what i mean. You already have the ability to do those awesome colourings that look so realistic. I'd love to see some more "realistic" figures from you ♥ espeically irken art. C:
Thanks so much! ^^ I actually recall using a custom textured foliage brush. My brush sets are so huge, it's hard to actually remember where they came from or how to find them again in my palette. >.< If I can find it, I will let you know!
