In the race for disaster I will come in first That's what I've learned The hard way...
~ Sick Puppies - Master of the Universe: [link] Just some IZ fanart I finished up the other day. This has been in my mind for a while... You can interpret this image however you wish. When I painted it, I had the idea that Zim finally won, but... he's not as happy about it as he thought he'd be.
Dear lord, I'm obsessed with this show. D": Yeah... Expect more Zim stuff from me. It's so much fun! <3
Psst... I hear this can make for a pretty spiffy wallpaper, too! c:
Total time: 6 hours Program(s): Paint Tool Sai and Adobe Photoshop CS5
For this painting, I used a custom round brush set to scatter in Photoshop. Though I have painted stars entirely by hand, this scattering method saves a lot of time. Be sure to vary your size and opacity to give the illusion of depth in the painting. Finally, I duplicated my stars layer and blurred it. Repeat this step, adding more blur if desired. This makes them look glowy and pretty! c:
Whoops, sorry for the confusion! I meant that I digitally paint by hand using a tablet connected to my computer. Though I have seen amazing mixed media pieces, I have not delved into that realm just yet. Maybe if I get a studio apartment to devote more space to projects, I might try it some time.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. I love the contrast between the red and blue. To me, it kind of looks like Zim, although he has achieved his goal, is seeing the Irken Empire as it really is for the first time, fully understanding the destruction (fire) and death (birds) that every invasion has caused, and that now he is experiencing a calm before the storm, a moment of complete clarity (clear sky and bright moon). And that he's trying to keep Gir from wandering onto the dark path as he once did (tightly holding the lead).
Oh dear, my inner writer is showing again. Awesome picture anyway, wish I could be that good!
Aww, thank you so much for the lovely comment! I really like your take on the image-- very refreshing and meaningful. I always aim to tell a bit of a story with my work through portrayed emotions, and you were very receptive to that. The way you interpreted the combination of colors, and elements presented to you throughout the painting is really beautiful in itself. Especially the part of him keeping Gir from the darkness ahead... Very profound and yet it makes so much sense.
I adore writers, so needless to say, I really adored your comment. I don't get to read responses like these too often, but it is always a pleasure when I do. Thanks again! ^^ I'm glad you liked the work and took the time to write about your thoughts.
Aww, thanks very much! I didn't start out this way... Just keep at it, and you will find a method that works for you. If you ever get stuck, remember to look for tutorials online. There are plenty of useful resources here on dA, so poke around. Referencing from life and photographs is an essential learning tool as well.
Thanks again, and good luck! We are all improving and have so much to learn~
